Aditya Dhar’s spy thriller, Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge, has redefined the Bollywood action landscape by shattering two decades of box-office records with a historic day-one collection of $17.47 million in India.
The film, which marks a watershed moment for Hindi cinema, earned a staggering $28.81 million gross globally on its opening day, including $6.33 million from paid previews, reports Hindustan Times.
In the domestic market, the collection comprised $12.31 million from the first full day and $5.16 million from previews, making it the first Hindi film to cross the $12 million mark on day one.
By the end of its second day, the film’s worldwide accumulation had already surpassed $39.62 million.
The A-rated sequel has obliterated 20 major benchmarks, overtaking the records of previous blockbusters such as Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan, as well as Baahubali 2 and RRR,. It also holds the distinction of being the fastest film to reach the $24.01 million mark globally.
Directed by Aditya Dhar, the film features Ranveer Singh in the lead role of Hamza Ali Mazari.
The ensemble supporting cast includes Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Rampal, R Madhavan, and Sara Arjun.
Industry veterans have met the film’s success with high acclaim; legendary filmmaker Rakesh Roshan stated that Dhar has initiated a “new era in filmmaking” and suggested the director’s audacity should be viewed as a “threat to complacency in the industry.”
The film’s dominance extends beyond financial figures, with international markets—particularly North America – responding enthusiastically to Dhar’s elevated directorial vision.
Following this unprecedented momentum, industry analysts predict that a sequel, Dhurandhar 3, may be announced within weeks.
Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge is currently on a trajectory to become the highest-grossing Hindi film of all time, having already surpassed the lifetime collections of numerous previous blockbusters within just 48 hours of its release.
