Ganosamhati Andolan candidate for the Dhaka-12 constituency Tasleema Akhter officially launched her 12-point election manifesto on Friday.

The event took place at 11am in the South Plaza of the National Parliament Complex, where Tasleema outlined her vision for the upcoming elections.

The manifesto includes a range of proposals aimed at addressing local and national issues, with a strong focus on improving the lives of citizens in Dhaka-12.

Among the key points highlighted in her platform are – controlling the prices of essential goods, ensuring accessibility to citizen services; fighting corruption, extortion, drug abuse, and land grabbers; promoting women’s rights and safety; providing free, quality education up to the 12th grade; ending the politicisation of educational institutions and establishing the Dhaka-12 Citizens’ Council to increase citizen participation in decision-making
Speaking at the event, Tasleema Akhter emphasized her slogan “Less talk, more action” as the guiding principle of her political agenda.

“My core goal is to ensure that every citizen can lead a dignified life,” she stated, adding that the manifesto will be further enriched through ongoing consultations with residents in the Dhaka-12 area during the campaign.

Following the manifesto presentation, she reiterated her commitment to working alongside both governmental and social initiatives to improve citizen services and ensure the safety and dignity of the people.

She pledged to turn Dhaka-12 into a model for the rest of the country, emphasising that this would be achieved through collective action.

Tasleema also took the opportunity to extend her greetings to the Hindu community in Dhaka-12 on the occasion of Saraswati Puja.

Abul Hasan Rubel, executive coordinator of Ganosamhati Andolan and convener of the Central Election Steering Committee, also spoke at the event.

He criticised the tendency of politicians to make grand promises during election seasons, often without delivering on them.

Rubel praised Tasleema for her commitment to action, citing her involvement in preparing the list of missing workers after the Rana Plaza collapse and her efforts to ensure compensation for the victims.

He also highlighted her leadership in the joint movements in Ashulia and her role in recent mass uprising.

The event was attended by local citizens from various wards within Dhaka-12, as well as central and city-level leaders of the Ganosamhati Andolan.

As part of her election campaign, Tasleema will begin electioneering in Ward 35 of the Eskaton area starting Friday afternoon, where she will promote her 12-point manifesto.

The campaign route will run from the Water Pump at Gausnagar to Madhubag Intersection.

The Dhaka-12 constituency encompasses several key areas of the Ramna region, which includes DSCC Wards 24-27 as well as DSCC Wards 35-36 within the Ramna Upazila.
