Bangladesh women’s futsal team exacted revenge on Pakistan, thrashing them 9-1 in Bangkok at the ongoing SAFF tournament. The men’s side had lost 1-5 to Pakistan yesterday, but today the women showed their class, taking a huge step toward the championship. Seven nations compete in the tournament, with the top team after six matches claiming the title.
Bangladesh captain Sabina Khatoon led the charge, starting and finishing the scoring in the first half as her side stormed into a 6-0 lead. “It feels incredible to score and help my team dominate the first half,” she said. Nusrath scored twice, while Neela and Krishna each added one, setting a record for the most first-half goals in this tournament so far.
The second half saw Bangladesh maintain their dominance. Pakistan managed one goal, but Bangladesh added three more, including a brace from Sabina and another from Krishna. The captain’s leadership drew praise from commentators throughout. “Sabina’s vision and finishing have been outstanding all game,” they said, highlighting her influence on both ends of the pitch.
With five matches played, Bangladesh sits atop the table with 13 points, ahead of India on nine points from four games. A draw between India and Bhutan in today’s final game would secure the title for Bangladesh even before their last match against the Maldives. Even if India wins and Bangladesh loses their final game, head-to-head rules would still crown Bangladesh champions.
