Didier Deschamps has rejoined the France squad at the 2026 World Cup after briefly returning home following the death of his mother, the French Football Federation confirmed on Saturday.
“Didier is with us,” the federation said in a message to media.
Deschamps missed France’s 4-1 win over Norway on 26 June in Foxborough, in which assistant Guy Stephan took charge at the touchline. The result confirmed France as winners of Group I, securing a shorter travel schedule ahead of the knockout rounds.
The 57-year-old, who guided France to the World Cup title in 2018 and to the final in 2022, will now return to the dugout for France’s round of 32 tie against Sweden in New Jersey on Tuesday. France remain based in Boston for the knockout stage.
