National Citizen Party (NCP) convener Nahid Islam recently declared assets worth Tk 32.16 lakh in an affidavit, as part of his preparations for the upcoming 13th parliamentary election.
Following Nahid’s submission, the NCP alleged that a certain quarter is spreading falsehoods on social media regarding the party convener’s electoral affidavit. Addressing this matter, the party’s Joint Member Secretary, Tamim Ahmed, has provided an explanation in a statement.
Tamim informed that during Nahid’s tenure as an adviser to the interim government, the NCP convener’s total income from salary and allowances was Tk 11.36 lakh.
Serving in the adviser role for seven months, Nahid earned an average monthly income of Tk 1.65 lakh. After resigning from the adviser post, the NCP convener began working as a consultant at a private organisation. There, he receives an honorarium of Tk 1 lakh per month.
Based on this, his total income from the adviser post and consulting profession in the last financial year amounts to approximately Tk 16 lakh. Tamim stated that for the 2024–2025 income year, Nahid Islam paid a total income tax of Tk 1.13 lakh, the NCP statement read.
All this information is clearly stated in his income tax return. Based on this, his annual income has been shown as Tk 16 lakh in the electoral affidavit. The affidavit states Nahid Islam’s total assets as Tk 32.16 lakh.

These assets include income earned during his tenure as an adviser and consultant, cash in hand, previously accumulated savings, financial assistance received from relatives at various social events and weddings, and the current market value of gold jewellery gifts.
Nowhere in the income tax returns or the electoral affidavit is Nahid Islam’s profession mentioned as teaching. Claims regarding this have been described as false information in the NCP statement.
Tamim also stated that in the fourth column of the electoral affidavit, his current profession is listed as consultant and his previous profession as holding the adviser post.
The Joint Member Secretary further said that when Nahid Islam resigned from the adviser post in February last year, Nahid himself stated in a public post that he had only Tk 10,698 deposited in his Sonali Bank account.
According to the affidavit information, the deposit amount in that same bank account now stands at Tk 3.85 lakh.
The clarification said that apart from this account in Sonali Bank and one account opened at City Bank on 28 December for election expense management, Nahid Islam has no other bank accounts.
