Deputy commissioners (DCs) have been directed to strictly enforce government-fixed prices for Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) and ensure a normal market supply.

Prime Minister’s Policy and Strategy Adviser Zahed Ur Rahman announced the instructions during a virtual meeting with district and divisional administrators.

Speaking to journalists at the regular weekly briefing at Secretariat on Tuesday, Zahed said district administrations must immediately compile a complete list of all LPG distributors and dealers operating in their respective areas.

“Instructions have been given to collect accurate accounts of the exact quantity of LPG dealers receive from distributors, alongside detailed identity credentials of the individuals concerned,” Zahed said.

He added that DCs have been asked to hold immediate meetings with local distributors and dealers to collect data across the entire supply chain and verify ground-level conditions.

If significant discrepancies, unusual shortages, or irregularities are detected between data provided by operators or franchise distributors and information from field-level dealers, the district administration will analyse the issue and report to the Energy Division alongside other relevant authorities.

Moreover, DCs will take strict legal action under the law against anyone selling LPG above government-fixed prices.

Highlighting the national food storage situation, Zahed noted that Food Ministry has launched special initiatives to strengthen national food security.

Under these initiatives, a target has been set to expand Bangladesh’s food storage capacity to 65 lakh metric tonnes by 2030. At present, the country’s storage capacity stands at slightly over 24 lakh metric tonnes.
