The government has formed a cabinet committee seeking recommendations to beef up the security arrangements at airports across the country, ahead of an upcoming audit by the global regulatory body International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
Headed by Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed, the eight-member committee also includes Civil Aviation Minister M Rashiduzzaman Millat, Cabinet Secretary Nasimul Ghani, Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Hasan Mahmood Khan, Home Secretary Monzur Morshed Chowdhury, Principal Staff Officer of the Armed Forces Division Lieutenant General Mir Mushfiqur Rahman, Civil Aviation and Tourism Secretary Nurun Nahar Chowdhury, and Inspector General of Police Ali Hossain Fakir, according to a Cabinet Division notification.
Meanwhile, the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) has launched a nationwide security awareness programme aimed at enhancing airport security standards, increasing awareness among passengers and airport personnel, and strengthening preparations for the ICAO’s Universal Security Audit Programme-Continuous Monitoring Approach (USAP-CMA) audit.
The ICAO audit assesses a state’s ability to maintain effective aviation security oversight and evaluates whether the required security measures and international standards are being implemented consistently and effectively.
