A legal notice has been served to Steadfast Courier following allegations that the personal information of its customers has been leaked. Saiful Islam Saif, a lawyer of the Supreme Court, sent the notice via courier on Tuesday.
The notice stated that it has recently been learnt through the media and social media that a vast amount of personal data belonging to Steadfast Courier’s customers has allegedly been made available for sale on the Dark Web.
As a result of this data breach, thousands of customers are now facing serious risks, including fake delivery calls and SMS fraud, phishing, OTP fraud, parcel redirection, and other forms of logistics-related deception.
The legal notice emphasised that, as a service provider, it is the legal and moral responsibility of Steadfast Courier to ensure the security of its customers’ data.
Any potential negligence or security lapses by the organisation could be deemed a violation of the customers’ fundamental right to privacy.
Under the terms of the notice, Steadfast Courier is required to provide a written explanation within seven days of receipt, verifying the accuracy of the data leak allegations.
The organisation must also disclose the measures currently being taken, as well as future steps to be implemented, for the protection of customer data.
The notice further demands that if a data leak has indeed occurred, the company must arrange for appropriate remedies and compensation for the affected customers.
Furthermore, the courier service must ensure that necessary security protocols are established to prevent such incidents in the future. The notice warned that legal action will be pursued if the organisation fails to take the required measures within the stipulated timeframe.
