Chattogram University (CU) held a meeting with a Bangladesh Railway East delegation at 11am on Monday at the Vice-Chancellor’s office to address operational issues and improvements in the university’s shuttle train service, a key transport mode for its students, the university said in a press release.

Chattogram University Vice-Chancellor Professor Mohammad Al-Furkan chaired the meeting, where railway officials were urged to enhance service quality, resolve existing constraints and ensure a more reliable and comfortable commute for the majority of students who depend on the shuttle trains.

Chattogram University Pro-Vice-Chancellor Academic Professor Mohammad Shamim Uddin Khan and Pro-Vice-Chancellor Administration Professor Md Kamal Uddin attended, along with university officials and Chaksu representatives.

The Vice-Chancellor sought updates on shuttle operations and called for prompt measures to address student concerns and prevent passenger inconvenience.

Chaksu representatives raised issues including increasing the number of shuttle trains, introducing double tracks, removing illegal structures along railway lines, expanding coaches and engines, controlling unauthorised passengers, strengthening security, improving power-car facilities, preventing stone-throwing and schedule disruptions, and upgrading stations.

Bangladesh Railway officials assured that both short-term and long-term measures, including increasing coaches and engines, would be implemented.

They said some steps could be taken quickly, while others would require more time due to practical constraints.

The Vice-Chancellor thanked participants, while the delegation expressed appreciation and assured full cooperation.

Also present were Chattogram University Proctor Professor Hossain Shahid Sarwardi, Assistant Proctor Md Kamrul Hossain, Controller of Accounts Md Amirul Islam, Chaksu General Secretary Saeed Bin Habib, Assistant General Secretary Aiyubur Rahman Taufiq, Communication and Accommodation Secretary Md Ishaq Bhuiyan, and Joint Communication and Accommodation Secretary Waidul Salman.

The railway delegation included Bangladesh Railway East General Manager Md Subaktagin, Divisional Railway Manager Mostafizur Rahman Bhuiyan, Chief Engineer East Md Tanvirul Islam, Chief Mechanical Engineer East Sadekur Rahman, Chief Signal and Telecommunication Engineer East Tarek Mohammad Sams Tushar, Chief Operating Superintendent East Mohammad Shafikur Rahman, Chief Commercial Manager East Mohammad Mahbubur Rahman, Chief Electrical Engineer East Muhammad Shafikur Rahman, Chief Commandant RNB East Md Jahirul Islam, and Chattogram Railway Police Superintendent Tahura Jannat.
