The Chittagong Stock Exchange PLC (CSE) on Monday paid tribute to its former CEO A B Siddique, recalling his contributions to strengthening the bourse’s institutional foundations and advancing Bangladesh’s capital market.
The exchange said in a statement that a memorial meeting and prayer session was held at its headquarters in Chattogram to honour Siddique, who died on July 15.
Senior CSE officials and former colleagues remembered Siddique as a key figure in the exchange’s formative years, crediting him with broadening its institutional base and encouraging leading business groups and entrepreneurs to participate in the country’s second stock exchange.
Speakers said his leadership helped lay the foundation for CSE’s transformation into a more organised and dynamic institution while fostering constructive relations with the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission and other regulatory bodies.
They also highlighted his efforts to expand cooperation with overseas stock exchanges and promote investor education nationwide. Between 1995 and 2010, Siddique led numerous investor awareness programmes that helped improve financial literacy and broaden participation in the country’s capital market.
CSE Managing Director M Shaifur Rahman Mazumdar described Siddique as more than an administrator, calling him a mentor whose integrity, professionalism and commitment to developing colleagues left a lasting mark on the organisation.
Participants at the memorial meeting offered prayers for Siddique and expressed condolences to his family, saying his contributions to the growth and institutional development of CSE and Bangladesh’s capital market would be remembered for years to come.
