Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman has said that during the country’s crisis, Jamaat leaders returned from abroad to establish people’s rights and have been leading movements to protect independence and sovereignty against the fascist forces allied with imperialism.
He stated, “Jamaat leaders do not have luxury residences like Begum Para or PC Para. No Jamaat leader has ever fled the country, and nor will they. Those who do not love the country and its people have built second homes abroad. They have left the country for their own interests.”
The Jamaat chief also alleged that top leaders of the party have been judicially killed due to political vendettas because of Jamaat’s stance.
He made these remarks as the chief guest at the Rukun Conference of Dhaka Metropolitan South, held at the China Friendship Conference Center on Friday.
Dr Shafiqur Rahman said, “In the past 54 years, Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh has never committed injustice or oppression against any citizen. No Jamaat leader or activist has ever engaged in extortion or terrorism, and nor will they. Jamaat has controlled the party, and it can also control the country. Those who cannot even control their own party will never be able to maintain peace and order or manage the overall situation in the country.”
Describing Islam as the only non-communal religion in the world, Dr Shafiqur Rahman said, “If an Islamic state is established, extortionists, terrorists, drug dealers, rapists, murderers, and looters have reason to fear – which is why they are spreading propaganda.” He questioned, “If mothers and sisters can freely go to markets, hospitals, and fulfill all basic needs under an Islamic movement, why would an Islamic state restrict women’s movement?”
Dr Shafiqur Rahman said, “All men and women of every religion are equal before the state. The state cannot discriminate based on religion or gender.” Seeking everyone’s cooperation in building a just society, he said, “Jamaat-e-Islami wants to move forward with Islam and patriots. Jamaat’s politics will solely be for the welfare of people and humanity.”
The conference, presided over by Central Executive Committee member and Dhaka Metropolitan South Ameer Md Nurul Islam Bulbul, was attended by special guests including party Secretary General and former MP Professor Mia Golam Parwar, General Secretary Maulana ATM Masum, Assistant Secretary General Maulana Rafiqul Islam Khan, and Central Executive Committee member and Media Affairs Secretary Advocate Matiur Rahman Akand.
