The hearing on the framing of charges for crimes against humanity committed during the July uprising will be held on Wednesday against four persons, including Sajeeb Wazed Joy, the information and technology adviser to ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina.
On 10 December, the two‑member International Crimes Tribunal‑1, headed by Justice Md Golam Mortuza Mojumder, passed the order. The other member of the tribunal is Justice Md Shofiul Alam Mahmood.
Apart from Joy, the three other accused are Salman F Rahman, former adviser on private industry and investment to the former prime minister; former law minister Anisul Huq; and former state minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak.
On that day, lawyer Monsurul Haque Chowdhury appeared for Salman F Rahman and Anisul Huq, while Liton Ahmed represented Palak, and Chief Prosecutor Tajul Islam argued for the prosecution.
Earlier, on 4 December, the tribunal took cognisance of the charges against Joy and Palak, as well as against Salman and Anisul Huq. An arrest warrant was also issued for Joy that day. The remaining three accused have been shown arrested in the case for crimes against humanity during the July mass uprising last year.
The cases against Joy and Palak are being tried together in the tribunal. Three charges have been brought against them. In the other case, five charges have been brought against Salman and Anisul Huq.
