A court has ordered the seizure of income tax records of former Chattogram-4 MP Didarul Alam and his wife Ismat Ara Begum in connection with corruption allegations.
In a related move, the tax records of Sheikh Rafiqul Islam, former Additional DIG of the Khagrachhari Specialised Training Centre under the Armed Police Battalion, have also been seized.
Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Sabbir Faiz issued the orders on Monday, following separate petitions filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
Court bench assistant Riaz Hossain confirmed the development.
According to ACC Deputy Director Rokonuzzaman, Didarul Alam is accused of criminal misconduct, abuse of power, and illicitly acquiring assets worth Tk13.98 crore, inconsistent with his declared income.
Investigations indicate that he holds Tk948.88 crore across 20 bank accounts.
A case was filed in Chattogram for concealing income through transfers and other means.
The ACC requested seizure of all relevant tax records from the 2024-25 fiscal year onward to ensure a thorough investigation.
Ismat Ara Begum is alleged to have illegally acquired and held assets worth Tk1.47 crore inconsistent with her known income.
ACC filed a case against her last year on 11 September, requesting her tax records for the 2024-25 fiscal year for proper scrutiny.
The ACC also alleges that former Additional DIG Rafiqul Islam misused his official position to acquire assets worth Tk2.09 crore through bribes and corruption.
He reportedly deposited Tk2.83 crore and withdrew Tk2.82 crore from his bank accounts, transferring and converting funds to conceal their origin.
ACC filed a case on 4 June last year and sought seizure of all relevant tax documents from the 2024-25 fiscal year.
