A Dhaka court on Monday ordered that Imran Hossain, the owner of Sadeeq Agro who drew significant public attention during the “goat incident,” be arrested in a case involving attempted murder of a man named Md Saleiman during the July uprising in Mohammadpur.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Jamshed Alam passed the order following an application by the investigation officer. The matter was confirmed to journalists by Md Mizanur Rahman, a sub-inspector of the prosecution department.
The investigation officer of the case, Sub-Inspector Rana Roy of Mohammadpur Police Station, had applied to show Imran as a suspected accused on 31 July.
The court scheduled a hearing for Monday in presence of the accused and, upon completion of the proceedings, ordered him to be sent to jail in connection with the case.
The investigation officer’s application said preliminary probes found sufficient evidence of Imran Hossain’s involvement in the incident.
According to the case allegations, on 3 August 2024, during the anti-discrimination student-people movement, activists from Awami League, Chhatra League, Jubo League, Swechasebak League, and other affiliated organisations launched a coordinated attack in Bosila Beribadh, Bosila Bridge, and Bosila Checkpost areas of Mohammadpur.
Numerous people were injured following indiscriminate gunfire. During the incident, Md Saleiman sustained a gunshot wound to his thigh.
In response, Saleiman filed an attempted murder case at Mohammadpur Police Station against 35 individuals, including Sheikh Hasina.
It is said Imran Hossain was previously arrested by Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on 3 March 2025.
The following day, a court ordered him to be sent to jail in a money laundering case involving the alleged smuggling of Tk133 crore. He has remained in custody since that time.
