A Dhaka court has set 25 February for delivering the verdict in a case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) against former Dhaka South Jubo League president Ismail Hossain Chowdhury Samrat over allegations of amassing illegal wealth.

Judge Md Zakaria Hossain of Dhaka Special Judge’s Court-6 fixed the date on Monday, bench assistant Fakir Zahidul Islam confirmed.

As Samrat remains absconding, no self-defence statement was recorded in the case. ACC prosecutor Nure Alam presented arguments on behalf of the commission. The court then set 25 February for the verdict.

Earlier, on 2 February, testimony in the case concluded. All 21 witnesses listed in the charge sheet testified before the court. On July 17 last year, the same court framed charges against Samrat, cancelling his bail and issuing an arrest warrant.

The case was filed on 12 November 2019 by ACC Deputy Director Md Jahangir Alam, accusing Samrat of acquiring illegal assets worth Tk29,480,087. Following investigation, Jahangir Alam submitted a charge sheet against him on 26 November 2020.
