The government has appointed Surayya Akhtar Jahan, Additional Secretary of the Local Government Division, as the new Administrator of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC).
A gazette notification issued by the Local Government Division under the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives on Monday confirmed the appointment.
According to the notification, Surayya Akhtar Jahan has been assigned the role under Section 25 A(1) of the Local Government (City Corporation) (Amendment) Ordinance, 2024.
As the DNCC Administrator, she will assume the powers and responsibilities of the DNCC Mayor, in accordance with Section 25A(3) of the ordinance, unless directed otherwise.
This appointment is effective immediately, and Surayya Akhtar will continue to fulfil her existing duties while carrying out her new responsibilities. She will be entitled to any additional financial or benefits as per regulations.
Surayya Akhtar replaces Mohammad Azaz, who had served as DNCC Administrator since February 12 of the previous year for a one-year term.
