Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus has emphasised that a self-reliant Bangladesh can be built through cooperative-based economic activities.
In a message on the occasion of the 54th National Cooperative Day on Saturday, he said, “The current interim government has taken multiple initiatives to modernize and energize the cooperative sector. I firmly believe that by promoting cooperative activities in agriculture, fisheries, livestock, savings and credit, and cottage industries, a self-reliant Bangladesh can be realised.”
Highlighting the theme of this year’s celebration, “Equality and Equity: Building the nation through cooperatives,” Yunus expressed his pleasure at the nationwide observance of the day on 1 November and extended his heartfelt greetings and congratulations to all cooperative members and citizens.
He further noted, “Ensuring social participation is essential for the successful implementation of any programme aimed at national and citizen development. By leveraging the immense potential of cooperatives, we can achieve this easily. Cooperatives are not just financial institutions; they also undertake a wide range of activities to address various social issues.”
Muhammad Yunus added, “The cooperative movement is indispensable for improving the quality of life of the underprivileged, developing skilled manpower, and accelerating economic growth. The interim government seeks to move forward in establishing an inclusive, just, and sustainable society. In achieving this goal, cooperatives have a pivotal role in creating a new, inequality-free Bangladesh.”
He concluded with a call to action, urging everyone: “Let us embrace the spirit of cooperatives and, with equality and equity, work together to build a new Bangladesh.”
The Chief Adviser also wished success to all programmes and initiatives undertaken across the country on the occasion of the 54th National Cooperative Day.
