Police have arrested 12 leaders and activists of Awami League (AL) and its associated organisations in Cumilla on charge of taking part in a 40-second flash procession.
The arrestees were produced before a local court and sent to jail on Friday afternoon, said Kotwali Model Police Station Officer-in-charge (OC) Mohinul Islam.
The OC said that members of the Detective Branch (DB) of police conducted raids across different parts of the city and made the arrests.
“We rushed to the spot immediately after receiving the news but found no one there. Later, we carried out drives and arrested them,” he added.
On 12 May, the government banned all activities of the AL and its associated and affiliated organisations on allegations of crimes against humanity, killings and other grave offences during the July mass uprising in 2024.
