A fire broke out at a restaurant situated on an upper floor of Petronas Tower 3 on Friday morning, located adjacent to the iconic Petronas Twin Towers in Kuala Lumpur.
Senior Assistant Commissioner Hassan ‘As’ari Omar, director of the Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM), confirmed the incident.
No casualties have been reported so far, reports Malay Mail.
Fire engines and personnel were immediately deployed to the scene to bring the blaze under control and firefighting operations were swiftly initiated.
Videos and photos circulated online showed thick black smoke rising from the upper levels of the 60-storey building, also known as Menara Carigali.
According to Malaysia’s national news agency Bernama, the fire originated in a restaurant located on one of the higher floors of the tower. A team from the Jalan Tun Razak fire station extinguished the fire, the agency reports.
Petronas Tower 3 houses a mix of office spaces along with several retail shops and food and beverage outlets. The cause of the fire is yet to be determined, and authorities are investigating the incident.
