A case has been filed with Tejgaon Police Station over the killing of Swechchhasebak Dal leader Azizur Rahman Mosabbir near Bashundhara City in Dhaka.

The victim’s wife lodged the case against four to five unidentified assailants, police said.

Mosabbir, member secretary of the Dhaka Metropolitan North unit of the Jatiyatabadi Swechchhasebak Dal, was shot dead behind the Bashundhara City shopping complex around 8:30pm on Wednesday. His body remains at the morgue of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) for autopsy.

He was initially taken to BRB Hospital on Panthapath in critical condition and later died.

Another man, Anwar Hossain, general secretary of the Van Workers’ Union in Tejgaon, was also shot in the attack and is now receiving treatment at the DMCH.

Investigators are reviewing CCTV footage from nearby shops to identify the attackers. The motive for the attack remains unclear, police said. A full investigation is under way, they added.
