Mohammedan Sporting Club’s devoted supporter Mohammad Ataur Rahman, known to all as Ata Bhai, died on Wednesday night. He was one of the most familiar faces in Bangladesh football. The club and its supporters confirmed his death.
Ata Bhai’s life revolved around Mohammedan. Football shaped his daily routine. On match days, he stayed in the gallery. On other days, he spent time around the club area.
Mohammedan have not won the domestic league for 22 years. Many supporters lost interest during this long wait. Ata Bhai never did. His loyalty remained strong until the end.
He was a regular at the National Stadium, Dhaka. Age slowed his body but not his voice. He shouted from the stands like a young fan. When a referee ruled against Mohammedan, he reacted without holding back.
He also followed Mohammedan in hockey and cricket. Still, football remained his greatest love.
In recent years, matches moved outside Dhaka due to stadium renovation. At the same time, his health weakened. Even then, he followed every update of Mohammedan. Supporters also kept in touch and often visited his home.
Mohammedan Sporting Club has expressed deep sorrow at the passing of their iconic supporter Mohammad Ataur Rahman, fondly known as Ata Bhai.
In a condolence message, the club said Ata Bhai was more than just a supporter. He was a constant presence in Mohammedan’s journey across decades. His love for the club remained strong through wins, losses and long title waits.
The club recalled how Ata Bhai regularly attended matches at the stadium and stayed closely connected with Mohammedan even when age and illness kept him away from the stands. His passion, voice and emotion reflected the true spirit of the black and white faithful.
Mohammad Ataur Rahman leaves behind a legacy of true support. His death has brought deep sorrow to Mohammedan and the wider football community. His funeral prayer will be on Thursday, after Zohr prayer.
