Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin has assured that the upcoming national parliament election will not be manipulated like before.
He said, “The Election Commission (EC) believes in justice.”
He made these remarks after inspecting the appeal booths for the ongoing nomination rejection and acceptance appeals at the EC building in Agargaon, Dhaka, on Thursday.
Referring to elections held during the Awami League government, CEC said, “The Election Commission believes in justice, and everyone will receive justice from the Commission. There will be no manipulated election this time, as before.”
Stating that EC believes in transparency, CEC said that appeals regarding the validity or cancellation of nominations would be resolved on legal grounds. The Commission will ensure equal opportunities and a level playing field for all.
In response to a question, the CEC mentioned that in the past, there were incidents of violence and bombings on nomination submission days.
However, this time, nominations were submitted in a very peaceful environment, and no incidents of violence were reported. This is a positive development.
Pointing out that EC has become a center of public interest, the CEC said, “People are coming from far-off areas to file appeals, which proves the public’s interest in the election. We view this positively.”
Appeals against the cancellation of nominations submitted to the Election Commission have been accepted for the fourth consecutive day on Thursday. Appeals can be filed until Friday. After that, the appeal hearings will begin on 10 January and continue until 18 January.
