A man died on Thursday morning after attempting to stop a fight between his colleagues at an under-construction building in the capital’s Kamrangirchar area.
The deceased, identified as Sakib, 35 was a mason by profession. The incident occurred around 8am in Mahadinagar.
According to Mansur Ali, a co-worker who rushed the victim to the hospital, the conflict broke out on the third floor of the building between two other labourers, Jahangir and Yasin. Sakib and Mansur intervened in an attempt to settle the dispute.
During the altercation, Sakib was reportedly pushed and fell onto a pile of sand on the floor, where he immediately lost consciousness.
Mansur clarified that Sakib had not been beaten, though he expressed confusion as to how such a fall resulted in his death.
Sakib was taken to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), where doctors pronounced him dead around 9:30am.
Inspector Md Faruk, in-charge of the DMCH Police Camp said that the body has been kept in the morgue for an autopsy.
Kamrangirchar Police are currently investigating the incident.
