Lionsgate has unveiled a revised poster for La La Land to mark the film’s 10th anniversary, correcting the hand position that Ryan Gosling has long joked about regretting, according to Deadline.
The updated artwork changes Gosling’s pose during the dance sequence with co-star Emma Stone, replacing what the actor famously dubbed the “La La Hand”.
Gosling first spoke about the poster during a 2024 interview with The Wall Street Journal, admitting the image had continued to bother him.
“There is a moment that haunts me,” he said. “We’re dancing, Emma and I, and I didn’t know this would become the poster for the movie.”
He explained that the choreography originally required both actors to raise their hands, but he decided to flatten his hand instead.
“We were supposed to have our hands up, and I thought it would be cool to put my hand [more flat] even though everyone told me it wasn’t cool. I was sure it was cooler,” Gosling said.
Looking back, he admitted he had changed his mind.
“Now when I look at it, and I have to see it all the time, you know what would’ve been cooler… [the intended pose]. It just killed the energy that way. I call it La La Hand,” he added.
The anniversary celebrations will continue with a theatrical re-release of La La Land on 16 August, when the Oscar-winning musical returns to Dolby Cinema at AMC Theatres.
Written and directed by Damien Chazelle, the film stars Gosling as a struggling jazz pianist and Emma Stone as an aspiring actress. The pair fall in love while chasing their dreams in Los Angeles. The cast also includes John Legend, Rosemarie DeWitt, Finn Wittrock and J.K. Simmons.
The film won six Academy Awards, including Best Director for Chazelle and Best Cinematography, Deadline reported.
