Shahbagh Police recovered a newborn’s body from the footpath near Dhaka University’s AF Rahman Hall on Wednesday night. The baby is estimated to have been about one day old.
Police said they responded to a call made to the national emergency service 999 around 9pm. The body was recovered and sent to the Dhaka Medical College morgue for autopsy.
Shahbagh Police Station Sub‑Inspector Tarak Kumar Haldar stated the body was found on the footpath between AF Rahman Hall and the Gias Uddin residential area. It was wrapped in polythene inside a white shopping bag.
A detailed investigation into the incident is underway.
