As Bangladesh embraces the monsoon, Coke Studio Bangla has released ‘Megh’, the latest offering from its fourth season, presenting a compelling fusion of classical Bengali musical traditions and contemporary artistic expression.
The second song of the season premiered across Coke Studio Bangla’s digital platforms on Sunday evening, celebrating the arrival of the Bengali month Ashar through a rich musical landscape inspired by centuries-old South Asian monsoon traditions.
Featuring performances by Masha Islam, Mousumi Dutta and Mohammed Shoeb, ‘Megh’ continues Coke Studio Bangla’s creative vision of reimagining local musical traditions through collaboration, experimentation and cross-genre storytelling.
‘Megh’ marks a distinctive collaboration between acclaimed musician and Coke Studio Bangla producer-curator Arnob and renowned classical vocalist and composer Mohammed Shoeb. Rooted in the iconic monsoon raag Mian Ki Malhar, the composition explores themes of anticipation, resilience and renewal, emotions long associated with the rainy season in Bengali culture.
The track offers a contemporary reinterpretation of Bengal’s artistic heritage by drawing inspiration from Rabindranath Tagore’s literary legacy while incorporating modern spoken-word influences. Its layered arrangement combines classical vocal techniques with contemporary songwriting and instrumentation, creating a soundscape that bridges generations without losing the emotional depth of traditional music, according to Coke Studio Bangla.
With the monsoon serving as an enduring source of inspiration in Bengali music, poetry and literature, the release arrives as a timely tribute to the season.
