The Chilean Primera Division has changed one of its jersey rules to help Cape Verde goalkeeper Vozinha complete his move to Colo Colo.
The league has approved a special request that allows the 40 year old to wear his popular nickname, Vozinha, instead of his family name on the back of his shirt, which is Josimar Jose Evora Dias.
Under the previous rule, players could only use their surname on their jerseys. Chilean clubs voted together to relax that rule for the experienced goalkeeper.
Local media reported that using his nickname on the jersey was one of Vozinha’s main conditions for joining Colo Colo.
The transfer to Chile’s most successful club has been agreed, but the final contract has not yet been signed.
Vozinha was due to arrive in Santiago earlier this week. However, he first delayed his trip because of visa problems and later stayed back for personal reasons.
Colo Colo director Jaime Pizarro and head coach Fernando Ortiz said the club remains in regular contact with the player’s agent.
Ortiz said Vozinha is excited about joining the club and expects him to resolve his personal matters soon before travelling to Chile.
Although the jersey issue has now been resolved, the delay in his arrival has raised some concern among the club and its supporters. They are now waiting for the experienced goalkeeper to complete the move.
