An 11‑year‑old boy went missing after falling into the Sangu River in Bandarban on Friday evening. As of 11am Saturday, rescue teams are yet to locate him.
The victim was identified as Arefin, son of Enamul Huq of Bandarban town.
Masud Parvez, officer‑in‑charge of Bandarban Sadar Police Station, said the incident occurred around 6pm. Arefin, after playing football with friends on the riverbank, went to wash his hands and face and slipped into the water.
The Fire Service and Civil Defence launched a rescue operation immediately. Locals said relatives and neighbours joined the search with engine boats, but strong currents hampered efforts.
A divers’ team from Chattogram has been called in to assist.
