Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed paid tribute to the martyrs of the Liberation War by placing flowers at the National Memorial on the occasion of Victory Day.

He placed the wreath at 7:05am on Tuesday to honour the martyrs. Justices from both the Appellate Division and the High Court Division of the Supreme Court were present with him.

Following the president and the chief adviser, the chief justice and the Justices of both divisions of the Supreme Court jointly placed floral tributes.

They then stood in solemn silence for a few moments to honour the memory of the martyrs.

Beginning with the historic Language Movement of 1952, the Bangali nation’s struggle for rights continued over a long path and culminated in the 1971 Liberation War.

As in previous years, a series of national‑level programmes has been undertaken to observe Victory Day with due dignity in remembrance of that glorious triumph.
