Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed inaugurated the renovated courtroom of the International Crimes Tribunal-2 (ICT-2) on Wednesday afternoon, marking a significant upgrade to the tribunal’s facilities.

The ceremony was attended by Justice Md Golam Mortuza Mozumder, chairman of ICT-1, Justice Nazrul Islam Chowdhury, chairman of ICT-2, and other tribunal judges.

Supreme Court Registrar General Habibur Rahman Siddiqui, ICT Registrar ASM Ruhul Imran, Chief Prosecutor Mohammad Tajul Islam, Deputy Registrar Mahmudul Hasan, and other prosecutors and tribunal staff were present at the inaugural ceremony, among others. The Chief Justice also inaugurated a new lift at the tribunal.

The reconstituted International Crimes Tribunals are currently hearing cases related to crimes against humanity, including enforced disappearance and killings during the regime of the fallen Awami League government and the July 24 uprising.

While ICT-1 continues its proceeding from the main building, ICT-2 had been functioning in a tin-shed facility within the tribunal premises. Following the renovation, all proceedings of ICT-2 will now be conducted in the new courtroom.
