Timothée Chalamet appeared unfazed by his Oscars loss on Sunday night, stepping out with girlfriend Kylie Jenner at the Vanity Fair after-party following the 98th Academy Awards.
Chalamet had been widely considered a frontrunner in the Best Actor race for his performance in ‘Marty Supreme’, having already won the Golden Globe and Critics’ Choice awards earlier in the season. However, the Oscar ultimately went to Michael B. Jordan for ‘Sinners’.
Despite the disappointment, Chalamet appeared relaxed at the star-studded Vanity Fair celebration. The actor posed with Kylie on the red carpet, holding her close and kissing her on the cheek as the couple smiled for photographers. Kylie attended the event in a sleek black dress.
Marty Supreme also missed out on several other major honours, including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Casting, all of which were won by ‘One Battle After Another’.
This marked Chalamet’s second consecutive nomination in the Best Actor category following last year’s nod for ‘A Complete Unknown’. He previously received his first nomination for his breakout performance in ‘Call Me By Your Name’.
In recent weeks, Chalamet had drawn criticism for comments he made about opera and ballet during a promotional appearance. The actor said he did not want to work in those art forms because, in his words, “no one cares about this anymore”. The remarks sparked debate online and drew responses from figures within the arts community.
Actor Jamie Lee Curtis shared a critical video responding to the comments, while London’s Royal Ballet and Opera publicly invited Chalamet to attend a performance. The English National Opera also extended an invitation.
The controversy even made its way onto the Oscars stage, where host Conan O’Brien joked about heightened security at the ceremony due to possible backlash from the opera and ballet communities.
Despite the recent criticism and the awards season setback, Chalamet appeared in good spirits at the after-party, enjoying the evening alongside Kylie and fellow guests from across the film industry.
