Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and actor Vijay’s final film Jana Nayagan has moved a step closer to release after nearly six months of delay. According to Indian media outlet Screen, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has completed its review and asked the makers to make several modifications before release.
The report said the film could arrive in cinemas in the last week of July or the first week of August once the required changes are completed. It also said the film is likely to receive an ‘A’ (Adult) certificate.
A source associated with the project said the production team has already begun editing the film in line with the CBFC’s recommendations. The source added that dubbing is expected to be completed by next week. KVN Productions’ Suprith Mohan also said the makers are targeting a release between the last week of July and the first week of August.
Directed by H. Vinoth, the political drama was originally scheduled for a Pongal 2026 release on 9 January. The film marks Vijay’s final screen appearance before entering full-time politics. He entered politics in 2024 and later became Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu following an electoral victory, generating strong public interest in the project.
However, censor-related issues delayed the release. In December 2025, the censor committee recommended several cuts and suggested a U/A certificate. The film was later referred to a revising committee following complaints.
The complaints alleged that some scenes could hurt religious sentiments and portray the armed forces in a controversial manner.
In April, several scenes from the film leaked online while it was undergoing the certification process. The Tamil Nadu Cyber Crime Wing launched an investigation and arrested 16 people in connection with the leak.
Jana Nayagan stars Pooja Hegde opposite Vijay. The cast also includes Gautham Vasudev Menon, Priya Bhavani Shankar and Yogi Babu in key roles.
