Bangladesh Bank has increased the maximum credit card limit for cardholders to Tk40 lakh from Tk25 lakh under revised guidelines issued on Sunday.
The central bank also doubled the unsecured credit limit to Tk20 lakh from Tk10 lakh.
The updated framework introduces measures aimed at improving card management, strengthening consumer protection and promoting responsible lending.
According to the circular, the new guidelines outline rules covering card types, customer eligibility, adjustments to credit limits, issuance and marketing practices, billing and payment procedures, privacy safeguards, dispute resolution and internal control systems.
The circular also sets requirements for overall security arrangements related to credit card transactions.
Bangladesh Bank Executive Director and spokesperson Arif Hossain Khan said the higher limits are expected to support wider card usage.
“The updated credit limits are expected to encourage higher card usage, support responsible lending, and contribute to Bangladesh’s push toward a cashless economy,” he said.
