Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin met with Chief Justice Dr Syed Refaat Ahmed at the Supreme Court on Tuesday afternoon, in line with tradition ahead of the announcement of the election schedule.
The CEC arrived at the Supreme Court around 1:30pm, coming directly from the Election Commission (EC) office, accompanied only by his secretary,an exception to the usual practice where all election commissioners join the visit.
According to EC officials, the meeting was expected to focus on constituency demarcation-related cases and the handling of potential writ petitions that could emerge after the election schedule is announced, with an aim to prevent disruptions to electoral activities.
Discussions were also likely to include judicial magistracy duties that judges carry out during election operations.
Meanwhile, preparations for the announcement of the 13th National Parliamentary Election and the referendum are nearly complete. The CEC’s speech has been finalised, and the schedule is expected to be declared on Wednesday or Thursday.
In anticipation of the announcement, the EC has already instructed state broadcasters Bangladesh Television (BTV) and Bangladesh Betar to be ready to record and air the CEC’s address.
EC Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed confirmed the directive on Monday while speaking to reporters at the EC headquarters in Agargaon.
