BNP Standing Committee member Nazrul Islam Khan has said 66 percent of respondents in a recent survey believe the BNP will win the thirteenth national parliamentary election.
He told a BNP event on Tuesday at the Krishibid Institution auditorium in Dhaka that the highest number of votes went in favour of the BNP when respondents were asked which party would win the most seats, while 26% mentioned Jamaat-e-Islami. He said public support for several other notable parties stood below 1%, according to the survey findings.
He said parties without public support may become desperate and turn to conspiracy. “It must be remembered that the people who have already made up their minds will not allow any conspiracy to succeed,” he said.
He said the fall of fascism and the restoration of democracy through a free and fair parliamentary election under a non-partisan interim government had achieved the BNP’s one-point demand. He said the interim government now exists to complete the remaining tasks following the fall of fascism.
He said the people had toppled a government that had been in power for 15 years and would not allow any conspiracy to defeat them. “No conspiracy has been able to defeat them, and none will,” he said.
He said the visible development of high-rise buildings, expressways and new trains had not fulfilled the basic needs of ordinary people. He said Bangladesh was witnessing a rise in millionaires while hundreds of thousands of people continued to fall below the poverty line every year.
He said the BNP would prioritise education, employment, income growth, women’s rights and healthcare in its development plans if it returned to power, and that detailed action plans would be placed before the public explaining how these commitments would be implemented.
Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, senior joint secretary general of the party and convener of the committee implementing the “Plan to Build the Country” programme, joint secretary general Habib-un-Nabi Khan Sohel and Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal leaders and activists attended the event.
