Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) held a two-day workshop in Dhaka on 3 and 4 May to prepare for Airport Security Programme ASP implementation and the ICAO Universal Security Audit Programme Continuous Monitoring Approach USAP-CMA, aiming to strengthen aviation security and align with global standards, the authority said in a press release.
The workshop at CAAB headquarters brought together 40 officials from eight airports to improve compliance with national and international security requirements and deepen understanding of aviation security regulations ahead of an International Civil Aviation Organization ICAO audit scheduled from 26 October to 6 November.
CAAB Member Security Air Commodore Md Asif Iqbal BSP BUP NDC AFWC PSC GD P attended as chief guest.
Deputy Director Chief AVSEC Inspector and ICAO auditor and certified instructor Mohammad Alamgir presented the keynote.
Among the speakers were Director AVSEC Policy and Certification Iftekhar Jahan Hossain, Senior Consultant Group Captain retired Khan Shahinul Bari, Assistant Director AVSEC Policy Abdullah Al Mahmoud, Assistant Director AVSEC Training Sharmin Khanam, and Security Officer Md Ariful Islam.
The sessions detailed CAAB’s model ASP checklist to streamline preparation, updating and approval of airport security programmes.
Under the National Civil Aviation Security Programme NCASP, each airport must prepare a written ASP and obtain CAAB approval.
The chief guest said regular ASP updates would strengthen internal controls, ensure compliance with national rules and help meet ICAO audit requirements.
CAAB said the initiative would make airport security systems more effective and compliant.
The upcoming audit marks a key milestone as ICAO requirements have changed significantly since the last review in 2018.
Organisers said participants’ engagement would support further improvements in civil aviation security and ensure a safe airspace.
Earlier, on 5, 6 and 7 April, CAAB’s AVSEC department held three workshops on Supplementary Station Procedure SSP preparation for 65 representatives of 36 foreign airlines operating in Bangladesh.
