Chief Adviser Mohammad Yunus has assured of providing all necessary support for the treatment of Gono Odhikar Parishad President Nurul Haque Nur, who is currently admitted to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) with severe injuries.
Yunus personally spoke to Nur on phone, and then contacted the hospital’s medical team on Saturday to inquire about Nur’s condition, assuring that all required medical assistance would be provided. He also instructed doctors at DMCH to ensure the best possible treatment for Nur and other injured members of his party.
He added that, if required, the critically injured will be sent abroad for treatment. Yunus also conveyed his best wishes for Nur’s speedy recovery and advised his family to remain strong during this difficult time.
Meanwhile, the DMCH has formed a high-level medical board to oversee Nur’s treatment. The hospital’s director, Brigadier General Md Asaduzzaman, briefed the press in this regard on Saturday morning.
He confirmed that Nur had sustained a head injury and a broken nasal bone, which had caused significant bleeding on Friday night. “The bleeding has since been brought under controlled, and Nur has regained consciousness,” Asaduzzaman said.
However, Asaduzzaman cautioned that Nur’s condition could not be considered fully stable for at least 48 hours.
Dr Mostak Ahmed, a member of the medical team, shared that Nurul Haque Nur was brought into the emergency department at around 11:20pm on Friday, conscious but in critical condition. He was subsequently transferred to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for further treatment.
Nur was severely injured during a second round of clashes with Jatiya Party (JaPa) activists in Kakrail, Dhaka, on Friday evening.
The incident occurred around 9:30pm in front of the JaPa office, and Nur was immediately rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where he was reported to have a severe head injury.
