Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus has instructed law enforcement agencies to fully cooperate with Dhaka University (DU) authorities to guarantee a peaceful and festive atmosphere for the upcoming Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) elections, set for Tuesday.
Yunus issued this directive during a high-level meeting at the State Guest House Jamuna on Sunday, which reviewed the overall law and order situation in the country.
Shafiqul Alam, the Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary, shared the details in a briefing following the meeting at the Foreign Service Academy.
He quoted the chief adviser as saying, “Complete cooperation is needed with university authorities to ensure a peaceful and celebratory atmosphere during the DUCSU elections.”
The chief adviser also remarked on the growing desperation of “defeated and cornered fascist forces” as the country heads towards elections and the expedited trials of those involved in the July massacre.
“This is not merely a law-and-order issue, it’s a matter of national security. These groups are using all their resources to disrupt the nation’s peace, stability, and democratic progress,” he added.
The meeting concluded that no leniency would be shown to those attempting to stir unrest, as the security of the nation remains the top priority.
The chief adviser further highlighted the potential for conspiracies aimed at disturbing peace during the Durga Puja festivities. “Durga Puja was celebrated peacefully last year, and we must use that experience to ensure smooth celebrations again this year,” he said.
The Ministry of Religious Affairs was instructed to engage with all faith-based organizations to promote communal harmony, with a meeting soon to be held between the Religious Affairs Adviser and these groups.
The chief adviser also emphasised constant monitoring of the law-and-order situation, with heightened coordination between law enforcement agencies.
Local administrations were urged to increase their activity, and political unity, forged after the July massacre, was to be maintained to ensure national stability.
Additionally, strict measures were ordered against illegal gatherings, sudden processions, and those behind them, with legal actions to be taken swiftly.
