Bangladesh’s holdings of foreign currency reached $30.3 billion as of Sunday, following the settlement of $1.5 billion for import obligations from the previous two months, July and August, via the Asian Clearing Union (ACU).

For the period spanning May to June 2025, the nation’s central bank disbursed $2.02 billion to cover ACU dues.

Subsequent to this ACU payment, the total foreign exchange reserves held by the central bank were reported at $30.30 billion. When measured according to the International Monetary Fund’s accounting standards, the reserves amounted to $25.39 billion. The comparable figure from the same period one year prior was $19.46 billion.

The ACU functions as a mechanism for the clearance of international payments. It facilitates the settlement of transactions among the member countries: Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Iran, the Maldives, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka.

Under this framework, the central bank of each participating nation clears its import debts on a bi-monthly basis.
