A businessman was allegedly killed during a clash between two rival teen gangs in Noakhali Sadar upazila on Saturday night.
The deceased, Md Kamal Uddin, 50, was a resident of Ward number 3 under Dadpur union and a local timber merchant.
According to locals, the violence broke out around 10pm in the Ramballavpur area of Dadpur union over a dispute involving local dominance and the consumption of yaba tablets.
Earlier around 9pm, an altercation occurred between youths of Minu Haji Bari and Lesi Sardar Bari over the sale and use of drugs.
Residents of Lesi Sardar Bari later detained several individuals from Minu Majhi Bari. Imam Uddin, 40, from Minu Majhi Bari, attempted to intervene, leading to a confrontation involving Tarek, Parvez and others.
During the escalation, youths from Minu Majhi Bari chased the opposing group. Tarek, Parvez and Farhad managed to flee, but Tarek’s father, Kamal, was caught and beaten.
He lost consciousness and was taken to the 250-bed Noakhali General Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.
Inspector (Operations) of Sudharam Model Police Station Ram Chandra Bhattacharya said police visited the spot and gathered information. The body has been sent to the hospital morgue for autopsy.
No arrests have been made so far, and legal action will be taken after discussions with the victim’s family.
