The 61st anniversary of the state-run broadcaster Bangladesh Television (BTV) will be celebrated on Thursday, December 25. To mark the occasion, a range of special programmes will be aired throughout the day on BTV.
These include congratulatory messages from eminent personalities and stars, as well as a documentary tracing BTV’s long journey, DIT to Rampura. Programmes and dramas featuring songs by popular artistes from BTV’s archive will also be broadcast. In addition, special programmes will be aired from the BTV Chattogram Centre.
Cultural programmes will take place throughout the day at BTV’s premises and studios. Alongside BTV’s own performers, prominent cultural figures from across the country, as well as BTV officials and employees, will take part. Guests attending the celebrations will share their memories of BTV.
BTV will broadcast these cultural programmes live from 8:00 am to 12:00 noon. Later, the music programme Sur Sagar will be aired live from the BTV studio at 11:00 pm.
On the occasion of the anniversary, BTV Director General Md Mahbubul Alam extended his greetings. He said: “Bangladesh Television is not just a broadcasting medium; it is a part of the country’s history, culture and the emotions of its people. Over its 61-year journey, BTV has witnessed and accompanied all the significant moments of the nation. By keeping pace with the times, embracing technological excellence and producing quality programmes, BTV will continue to be a medium of public trust and affection in the future. I extend my sincere greetings and congratulations to everyone associated with BTV on its founding anniversary.”
It is worth noting that Bangladesh Television began its journey on December 25, 1964, on the ground floor of the then DIT building in Dhaka. After independence, BTV started operating as a state institution in 1972. In 1975, it moved from the DIT building to its own premises in Rampura. In 1980, BTV entered a new era with the introduction of colour broadcasting.
Today, the state-owned broadcaster delivers programmes to viewers in HD format via terrestrial and satellite transmission, as well as through social media and mobile apps.
