Theatre troupe BotTala’s stage production Bonnotherium is set to return after a hiatus, with two shows scheduled for May 1 at Bangladesh Mohila Samity auditorium in the capital. The performances will take place at 4:30 pm and 6:30 pm.
Adapted from Sukumar Ray’s Hensoram Hoshiarer Diary, the play has been written and directed by Ivan Riaz. The story follows a fictional organisation that captures a rare and unusual animal, triggering a chain of events driven by greed, ambition and commercial interests.
As the narrative unfolds, characters become increasingly consumed by the prospect of exploiting nature for profit, overlooking environmental balance and long-term consequences. The production blends satire and fantasy to reflect on human attitudes towards wildlife and ecological preservation.
Speaking about the work, the director said the concept was shaped during a period of environmental activism in Bangladesh, drawing inspiration from literary sources to craft a story that resonates with contemporary concerns.
The cast includes a large ensemble of theatre performers, while the production is staged by the troupe BotTala, which has been active since 2008 and is known for a range of notable productions.
