Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized 9,970 yaba tablets along with a large quantity of drugs and smuggled goods in separate drives along the Kushtia border on Saturday.
Members of Kushtia Battalion (47 BGB) carried out the operations in their assigned border areas.
At around 12:15pm, a special patrol team from the battalion headquarters conducted a drive at Mirpur bus stand. The team searched a passenger bus named ‘Alhaj Enterprise’, travelling from Meherpur to Kushtia, and recovered 9,970 yaba tablets in an abandoned condition.
The estimated value of the seized yaba is Tk29.91 lakh.
Earlier, at around 1:45am, a patrol team from Kazipur BOP conducted another drive in the Kazipur border area.
The team recovered 20 bottles of Indian liquor, 900 dexamethasone tablets and 600 cyproheptadine tablets, all left abandoned.
The estimated value of these items is Tk4.8 lakh.
At nearly the same time, a patrol team from Pragpur BOP conducted a drive in the Gorura field area. They seized 4,640 packets of Indian leaf cigarettes, with an estimated value of Tk2.55 lakh.
In another operation at around 2:00am, a patrol team from Jamalpur BOP conducted a drive in the Dharmadah field area. The team recovered 4kg of Indian cannabis in an abandoned condition, with an estimated value of Tk14,000.
The total value of all seized items stands at Tk37.40 lakh.
Commanding Officer of Kushtia Battalion Lt Col Rashed Kamal Rony said the battalion remains firmly committed to enforcing a “zero-tolerance” policy against drugs and smuggling along the border.
He added that such drives will continue to protect young people from the harmful effects of drugs and maintain law and order in border areas.
