For the upcoming national parliamentary election, the BNP is nominating Sanjida Islam (Tuli), the coordinator of ‘Mayer Daak’ – an organisation of the families of victims of enforced disappearance – for a constituency in Dhaka. Sanjida Islam played a key role in forming this organisation with the families of those who were forcefully disappeared during the previous Awami League government’s tenure.
Her brother, Sajedul Islam Sumon, was the General Secretary of the BNP for Ward No 25 (Dhaka North City Corporation). On the night of 4 December 2013, RAB members picked him up from the Bashundhara residential area. His whereabouts remain unknown.
Sanjida Islam was announced as the BNP candidate for the Dhaka-14 constituency, which comprises Mirpur, Shah Ali, and Darus Salam areas.
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir announced the party’s candidates for 237 seats in the national parliamentary election at a press conference held at the BNP Chairperson’s office in Gulshan on Monday afternoon.
