BNP has apologised to city residents for any inconvenience caused by the reception for acting chairman Tarique Rahman’s return on Thursday, 25 December.
Salahuddin Ahmed, standing committee member and coordinator of Tarique’s homecoming reception committee, announced the measures at a press briefing at the BNP chairperson’s office in Gulshan on Wednesday.
He said the reception would be held on the service lane of the 300 Feet Road to minimise traffic disruption. Tarique Rahman will be the sole speaker, and party activists have been instructed to use Kanchan Bridge for travel.
Medical teams and a six-bed field hospital will be on standby near the reception venue. Help desks will assist airport passengers, while additional parking and reception centres have been arranged across Dhaka North and South City Corporations.
Tarique is scheduled to land at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 11:50am on Thursday via a Biman Bangladesh flight. Standing committee members will welcome him at the airport, followed by a brief reception on the route to Evercare Hospital.
The party clarified that Tarique does not support programmes that disrupt public life.
Salahuddin Ahmed explained that Tarique selected the dates deliberately to coincide with the three-day holidays (25–27 December), ensuring minimal disruption to daily commuters.
He urged party activists to maintain strict discipline, noting that no large-scale event is entirely free of logistical challenges.
The BNP emphasised that the reception has been organised to honour Tarique’s return while limiting inconvenience to the public, reflecting the party leadership’s careful planning and consideration.
