Sandeep Lamichhane believes Rajshahi Warriors have assembled a balanced and self-sufficient squad capable of mounting a serious title challenge in the upcoming Bangladesh Premier League, with every player ready to give their best.
The Nepalese leg-spinner arrived in Bangladesh on 23 December and joined training the following day. Speaking to the media after his first session with the team, Lamichhane said his clear objective was to win the BPL title with Rajshahi.
Rajshahi have built a strong squad for this season, featuring Tanzid Hasan Tamim, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Mohammad Nawaz and Sahibzada Farhan, alongside local talents such as Zisan Alam, Tanzim Hasan Sakib, Yasir Ali Rabbi, Akbar Ali, Ripon Mondol and Hasan Murad. The presence of senior campaigner Mushfiqur Rahim further strengthens the side.
Talking about the team’s overall strength, Lamichhane highlighted the importance of local players in franchise cricket.
“The potential in this squad is outstanding,” he said. “In a franchise league, local players play a very important role. Rajshahi Warriors have a lot of talent, and I have played with many of them before, so I know what they are capable of. Everyone is excited about the first match against Sylhet, and the atmosphere in the dressing room is very positive.”
Lamichhane also praised the balance across all departments, from batting depth to bowling resources.
“There is balance from the top order right through to the lower order. We have quality spinners and fast bowlers. Najmul (Shanto) is leading the side, Mushfiqur Rahim brings huge experience, and the overseas players add further depth. Overall, this is a complete team and everyone is ready to give their best for the title,” he added.
The spinner revealed that his move to Rajshahi came at the request of head coach Hannan Sarkar, expressing gratitude for how smoothly the deal was completed.
“I was watching the Nepal Premier League final when he messaged me asking if I wanted to join Rajshahi Warriors. Everything was finalised within minutes, and I am very thankful to him for making the process so easy,” Lamichhane said.
Looking ahead to the tournament, Lamichhane stressed the importance of starting well and winning matches consistently.
“The goal is simple — to win matches. Along with that, we want to entertain the fans and collect important points. I am grateful for all the support, and we will try our best as a team to win the trophy,” he said.
