A politically charged Bangladeshi film is heading to cinemas just weeks before the national election, positioning itself as a timely reflection on the country’s democratic journey.
‘Ekhane Rajnoitik Alap Joruri’ will be released nationwide on January 16, less than a month ahead of the parliamentary polls scheduled for February 12. Rather than engaging directly with electoral politics, the film looks back at key moments in Bangladesh’s political history, from the Liberation War of 1971 and the mass uprising of 1990 to more recent student-led movements.

Originally planned for release later this year, the film’s theatrical run was rescheduled and formally announced at a press conference on December 21 at the Bangladesh Film Development Corporation. Filmmakers and cast members said the new release date was chosen to encourage public engagement with political awareness through cinema.

Directed by Ahmed Hasan Sunny in his feature debut, the film is written and produced by Khalid Mahbub Turjo. Sunny said the project challenges the long-standing social reluctance around political discussion, arguing that civic awareness should be encouraged rather than avoided.

The cast includes Imtiaz Barshon in the lead role, alongside Azad Abul Kalam, A K Azad Setu, Keya Al Jannah and Tanvir Apurba. By revisiting decades of struggle and resistance, the film aims to spark conversation about citizenship, history and democratic responsibility at a moment of national significance.
