Police recovered the dismembered body of a woman from a residence in Mirhajirbagh, Jatrabari early Sunday and detained her husband.
The deceased, Shirin Begum, 35, was found after a call to the 999 national emergency service.
Police recovered the body around 3:30am and sent it to Dhaka Medical College morgue for an autopsy.
Jatrabari Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Md AKM Moinuddin confirmed the incident.
He said preliminary findings suggest the murder stemmed from domestic disputes over Shirin’s alleged extramarital affair.
Police suspect her husband, Dulal, 50, killed her and severed her body parts.
Shirin was the daughter of the late Sohrab Ali and hailed from Bikhakhali village under Mirzaganj Police Station in Patuakhali.
Her son lives in Chattogram and her daughter in Gazipur. Both have been informed of the incident.
Inspector Moinuddin said the process of filing a case was underway.
