Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel recovered three foreign-made pistols, three kilogrammes of high-power explosives, and 24 detonators during a special operation at Barlekha border in Moulvibazar.
The operation was conducted by a team from Beanibazar Battalion (52 BGB) in Mission area of Barlekha Sadar Union.
Acting on a tip-off regarding a shipment of arms and explosives entering the country, the operational team, led by Lieutenant Colonel Md Ataur Rahman Sujon, commanding officer of Beanibazar Battalion, took positions in the border area.
Around 03:30am on Thursday, the BGB team challenged a group of miscreants. However, the suspects managed to escape by taking advantage of the darkness and the dense jungle nearby.
A subsequent search of the area, located roughly 500 yards inside Bangladesh from border pillar 1385/M, led to the recovery of the weapons and explosives.
The seized items included three foreign pistols, 23 tubes of high-power “Powergel 90” explosives (weighing 3kg), 24 detonators, 15 metres of wire for making detonators, and two kukri machetes.
Legal procedures are currently being processed in connection with the incident.
