Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has detained a human trafficker from a border area in Panchagarh on Friday night.
The detainee was identified as Abu Hossain, 30, a resident of Kathaltali village under Patgram upazila of Lalmonirhat, son of Akbar Ali.
According to BGB sources, the man was detained from the Satiapara border area under Haribhasa union of Panchagarh Sadar upazila.
BGB officials said, acting on a tip-off, a patrol team of BGB-56 Battalion conducted an operation in the Ghagra Border Outpost (BOP) area.
The team, led by Subedar AKM Ali Azad, carried out the drive in the designated border zone. During the operation, BGB members detained Abu Hossain from Satiapara, about 140 yards inside Bangladesh territory from border pillar 749/MP.
During primary interrogation, the detainee reportedly confessed to his involvement in human trafficking. Following legal procedures, a case was filed against him, and he was handed over to Panchagarh Sadar Police Station.
Confirming the matter, Lt Col Md Sirajul Islam, commanding officer of Nilphamari-based 56 BGB Battalion, said, BGB’s intelligence surveillance and operational activities have been intensified in line with directives from the BGB headquarters.
He added, BGB remains vigilant to prevent illegal infiltration, human trafficking, particularly of women and children, drug smuggling and other cross-border crimes.
He said, “The 56 BGB is on highest alert to prevent illegal border crossings and will maintain a zero-tolerance stance against all forms of border-related crimes.”
